Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has stated that the government must create a conducive environment for political dialogue. He argued that negotiations cannot move forward while PTI leaders and workers continue to receive court sentences.
Gohar noted that the prime minister had invited the opposition for dialogue on the floor of the National Assembly, with PTI consistently maintaining that political issues should be resolved through political means. “On one hand our people are being sentenced, while on the other hand there is talk of negotiations. That should not be the case,” he said.
Gohar also welcomed reports that Bushra Bibi’s family had been allowed to meet her, saying family visits should be facilitated for all detainees. He added that Imran Khan’s family should also be allowed to meet him, claiming that 36 weeks had passed without such a meeting, which he described as a matter of concern.
Gohar expressed support for the family’s position that Imran Khan should be shifted to a hospital if medical treatment requires it. Regarding national security, Gohar said PTI supports the government’s efforts to combat terrorism, describing it as a serious threat that must be eradicated. He praised the sacrifices of the armed forces and said counterterrorism operations should not become a subject of political point-scoring.
Meanwhile, authorities allowed Bushra Bibi’s daughter, Mubashra Sheikh, and her sister-in-law, Mehr-un-Nisa Maneka, to enter Adiala Jail for a meeting through Gate No 5. Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan and PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja were stopped by police at the checkpoint while attempting to proceed toward Adiala Jail.
