Lahore’s Transportation Systems Reach Records During Vibrant Basant Festival

The vibrant Basant Festival in Lahore saw an unprecedented surge in movement, with 900,000 vehicles entering the city over three days, as reported by official figures. This record-breaking figure underscored the massive public participation in the festivities.

Public transport usage also hit its peak during the festival. Over two days, nearly 1.4 million passengers utilized various government-run transportation options, including the Orange Line Metro Train, Metro Bus, Feeder Buses, and Electric Buses, all operating on free travel facilities provided for Basant celebrations.

Over Friday, the Orange Line Metro Train served 299,000 passengers, followed by a slightly higher number of 305,000 on Saturday. By the end of the two-day period, more than 600,000 commuters had benefited from free rides.

The Metro Bus service saw even greater numbers: 143,000 passengers boarded on Friday and 135,000 on Saturday, totaling 278,000. Meanwhile, the Speedo Feeder bus network transported an impressive 357,000 passengers over two days.

On electric feeder bus routes, the figure stood at 30,000 free rides for 41 buses in total, while buses operated under the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) facilitated 60,000 commuters. Authorities confirmed that Green Electric Buses carried a combined total of 52,000 passengers on Friday and Saturday.

In all, these public transportation options served more than 900,000 individuals during the Basant Festival, highlighting Lahore’s robust infrastructure in handling such high volumes. Authorities also noted that over 419 buses were available for free service on the final day of celebrations to accommodate a steady flow of visitors and revelers.

This surge in transportation not only showcases the festival’s popularity but also underscores the city’s commitment to ensuring ease of movement for all participants during these festive events.
