Brooklyn Beckham’s ex-girlfriend, Afton McKeith, has publicly defended her former partner in light of the controversial statement he recently made. The actress, now 25 years old and who dated Brooklyn during their younger days, stated to The Sun that his claims were “telling the truth” and that he had been struggling with life under constant scrutiny for a long time.
McKeith clarified that this situation was not something that occurred suddenly but rather resulted from prolonged pressure tied to the Beckham brand. She noted, “A lot has gone on over the years. This has not just happened overnight,” she told The Sun. According to McKeith, growing up in the public eye was deeply challenging for Brooklyn and he had suffered from persistent anxiety throughout his life.
“When I look back, it’s clear that Brooklyn was telling the truth in his post,” said Afton. “It was hard for him growing up. There are two sides to every story, but I know growing up in the spotlight was a tough experience for him.”
While acknowledging the complexity of any situation and the potential for multiple perspectives, McKeith maintained that Brooklyn’s upbringing as the child of global celebrities had not been easy. She further alleged that he often felt distressed when photographed and frequently required security support despite being naturally composed and not prone to confrontation.
McKeith stated: “Brooklyn was someone who did not get angry but instead internalized stress. He would appear frantic and overwhelmed in high-pressure situations.” Moreover, she claimed that his parents’ demanding schedules had contributed to feelings of isolation for Brooklyn; although he was surrounded by siblings and nannies, McKeith suggested he struggled with their frequent absences and lacked a sense of emotional stability at home.
In response to speculation regarding the authenticity of Brooklyn’s six-page statement, Afton firmly dismissed the idea that his wife, Nicola Peltz, had authored it. She emphasized: “Brooklyn wrote it himself,” she said. “He is intelligent, articulate, and has simply reached his limit.”
Thus far, Brooklyn’s parents, David and Victoria Beckham, have not directly addressed his claims.
