As the Middle East continues to be engulfed in conflict, celebrities are taking up their voices on the escalating crisis. Bella Hadid, a Palestinian-Dutch supermodel known for her vocal stance on global issues, has stepped forward with a powerful message aimed at protecting the innocent caught between governments and military decisions.
Her Instagram post came as the region dealt with days of bombardment and retaliatory strikes. The most recent salvo saw the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, plunging the Middle East into its gravest crisis in decades. Among those killed was a group of 150 children when Israeli airstrikes destroyed a primary school for girls in Minab, southern Iran. Thousands more were injured in urban areas and infrastructure hit by the strikes.
The carnage has seen more than 1,000 civilians dead within just five days, with thousands wounded. Human rights groups are sounding alarm bells as they warn that expanding hostilities across the region could devastate civilian populations. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Iranian Red Crescent Society, and Save the Children have all called for restraint and adherence to international humanitarian law.
In a post titled “Civilians Must Be Protected,” Hadid shared graphic imagery from ICRC alongside her own statement. She wrote, “My heart is with the people of Iran, and with every civilian anywhere caught in the middle of government decisions and military escalation. Safety, dignity, and peace should never be negotiable.”
Hadid’s message was not just an emotional appeal but a resource list directing followers to humanitarian groups working in the region. She also shared screenshots from ICRC statements calling for the protection of children during escalating violence across the Middle East.
“What matters most is protecting civilians, preventing further escalation, and remembering our shared humanity,” she wrote. For Hadid, whose father is Palestinian and who has frequently addressed wars such as that in Gaza, her message remained focused on the plight of everyday people rather than geopolitics.
“I’m praying for restraint, accountability, and peace,” she added. “I stand in solidarity with the people of Iran, human beings everywhere living through uncertainty right now.”
