Ben Hollingsworth, a star of Virgin River, has spoken about the surprise exits of Lauren Hammersley and Marco Grazzini from the show.
He revealed that he learned about their departures a month ago when Patrick Sean Smith, the showrunner, contacted the cast members directly. Hollingsworth reached out to Grazzini immediately, offering condolences but also expressing how much the show would be affected without him.
The actor emphasized that this is just the beginning for Marco, hinting at future opportunities for the departing cast member. Following the premiere of Virgin River’s seventh season on March 12, creator Patrick Sean Smith confirmed that neither Lauren nor Marco would return for the upcoming eighth season.
Smith explained his decision, stating he aims to ensure the longevity of the show and that characters must have enough story potential to continue. He also hinted at future cast changes but did not specify any plans yet, suggesting a need to introduce new characters as old ones reach their narrative conclusion.
