Bilateral Talks Highlight Deepened Relations Between Myanmar and Pakistan in Islamabad

Union of Myanmar’s Union Minister for Foreign Affairs, H.E. U Than Swe, met with the Pakistan Government’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, this morning during his bilateral visit to Pakistan.

The meeting provided a platform for extensive discussions on all aspects of Pakistan-Myanmar relations. The two sides reviewed the current state of their bilateral ties and exchanged views on regional peace and security, as well as other areas of mutual interest. They also discussed potential avenues to strengthen cooperation in trade and economic engagement, capacity-building, humanitarian assistance, and consular services, including cases involving individuals affected by fraudulent activities abroad.

Recalling the longstanding friendship and historical bonds between their peoples, both sides emphasized the importance of deepening cultural cooperation and promoting people-to-people exchanges such as academic linkages, youth engagement, and cultural initiatives.

The Myanmar Foreign Minister highlighted the potential of religious tourism as a significant avenue to further strengthen cultural ties and enhance people-to-people connectivity.

**Pakistan reaffirmed its support for a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Myanmar, while reiterating its principled position in favor of national reconciliation in Myanmar.**

Following these consultations, both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan and Myanmar in Islamabad on January 26, 2026.
