Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has left for the United States to attend the National Prayer Breakfast, a high-profile annual event attended by global leaders, diplomats, and religious figures.
Before reaching the US, Bilawal will make a brief stop in Dubai and is scheduled to visit Germany after the event. Addressing the media earlier, he clarified that his visit is not an official trip, nor is he representing the government.
“I am neither a minister nor a government official, so this is not an official trip or a government representation,” he stated, adding that his participation follows a tradition dating back to his mother’s tenure.
Held annually on the first Thursday of February in Washington, D.C., the event gathers over 3,500 attendees from around the world, including US leaders, diplomats, and religious figures. It was first attended by President Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953-1961), and every US president since has continued the tradition.
Beyond the breakfast itself, the prestigious two-day event includes forums, luncheons, and discussions where leaders pray and deliberate on global and national issues. Representatives from over 100 countries regularly participate in this gathering.
