Boy George Advises Chappell Roan on Handling Harassment from Photographers

The spotlighted drama between Chappell Roan and photographers took center stage this week when a viral video spread like wildfire across the internet. In the clip, which garnered significant attention, the Guilty Pleasure star addressed photographers directly, demanding they stop following her and harassing her.

Roan’s stance has resonated with many people who felt compelled to offer support for her cause. Among those endorsing Roan was British musician Boy George. He penned a thoughtful message on social media, offering his insights into fame’s complexities and its unpredictable nature.

“Being in the public eye for so long,” George reflected, “I’ve learned that one doesn’t get a free pass once they become an icon or a ‘bird of paradise.’ I laughed when witnessing Roan filming paparazzi in Paris; kicking them off has been part of my routine.”

George emphasized the importance of owning fame. “It’s annoying at times,” he admitted, “but ignoring and being told you’re a ‘has-been’ is equally as uncomfortable.” He advised that one should embrace their status rather than retreat into boundaries.

“It takes much more effort to decline a photo request or refuse a signature. Boundaries can be dull,” George cautioned. Instead of adhering strictly to such rules, he suggested breaking them with “the magic of kindness!”

This advice comes after Roan demanded an apology from a photographer at the Netflix Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour concert in October 2024. In a public statement, she accused the photographer of being disrespectful and unapologetic during her Grammys experience.

As this episode unfolded, it became clear that Roan isn’t alone in navigating through these challenging waters. Her message to photographers emphasized that the world is hers for the taking—she just needs to stop kicking it into motion. George’s words served as a timely reminder of how one can elevate their own journey by transcending conventional barriers and embracing generosity.

In essence, while fame brings its unique set of challenges, Roan’s advocacy highlights the value in staying authentic, resilient, and kind-hearted in the face of adversity.
