The Accountability Court of Islamabad has issued a warrant for the release of former First Lady Bushra Bibi, following her bail approval by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the Toshakhana II case. Bushra Bibi was subsequently released from Adiala Jail and transferred to Bani Gala.
She was freed from Gate No. 5 of Adiala Jail after her bail bond was submitted to the court of Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand. This development comes after a delay in her release, as the required judges were unavailable the previous day.
Despite the IHC granting her bail, Bushra Bibi’s lawyers faced challenges in submitting her bail documents, as several courts had closed for the day. However, once the bail bond was successfully submitted by Malik Tariq Mehmood Noon, the release process was completed.
Bushra Bibi had been in jail for nine months, serving a 14-year sentence in the original Toshakhana case, handed down on January 31, 2024. Following her sentencing, she voluntarily surrendered to the authorities. Later, her sentence was suspended by the IHC, but she was re-arrested by the FIA in connection with the Toshakhana II case, prompting her legal team to file an appeal.
With her release, Bushra Bibi has now returned to Bani Gala, which had earlier been declared a sub-jail by the Islamabad administration.
