ISLAMABAD: The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has greenlit a significant acquisition that aims to enhance Pakistan’s technological landscape. SUOL Innovations Ltd, a subsidiary of the global inDrive Group headquartered in Cyprus, recently acquired majority control over KRRAVE Technologies Pte Ltd. This transaction took place after prior acquisitions through call option agreements with multiple shareholders.
SUOL Innovations Ltd’s move was reviewed under the ex-post facto merger authorisation framework by the CCP following their decision to acquire shares despite not having initially obtained the necessary approval. The acquisition, which occurred before formal authorization, now undergoes scrutiny and validation through this process.
The CCP has also appointed Farid Ahmad Tarar as its new chairman. With a background that includes extensive experience in international development initiatives, Tarar has spearheaded several major reform programs across Pakistan. His career highlights include serving as the team leader in a European Union-funded Public Financial Management (PFM) Reform Programme and the Strategic Policy Adviser for FCDO’s SEED programme.
Earlier this year, he played a crucial role in strengthening Pakistan’s Public Finance Management systems under UNICEF support. Tarar also served as Pakistan’s Commercial Counsellor in Rome, where he facilitated trade diplomacy with the European Union, particularly during negotiations that led to Pakistan’s GSP+ status.
This appointment and acquisition underscore the CCP’s commitment to aligning market dynamics for greater economic efficiency and innovation. With this new mandate, Tarar is expected to play a pivotal role in guiding the commission’s future initiatives, focusing on both internal reforms and fostering international cooperation within the region.
