Chris Hemsworth Shares Why Moving to Australia Was His Greatest Decision

Chris Hemsworth expresses immense satisfaction with his choice to relocate his family to Australia, sharing a heartfelt account during an episode of the Smartless podcast aired on February 23.

It was near the time his three children arrived when they decided to leave Los Angeles for Byron Bay. The actor and his wife, Elsa Pataky, were already established in L.A., yet their experiences there did not align with their aspirations. Chris recalled the mundane nature of life filming everywhere else around town: “Nothing was shooting there,” he said.

A significant factor in the decision to relocate was the constant presence of paparazzi stalking them at home. Upon returning from set, they often encountered paparazzo photographers waiting for an opportunity to snap their family’s image. This intrusion disrupted their daily life and took away from the peace they craved.

Now settled in Australia with his wife and three children—India Rose and twin sons Sasha and Tristan—the Hemsworths live a serene existence in Melbourne. Chris noted, “You know when you come back from work, what do you want? To go on holiday! Coming home for me feels like a holiday.” The family enjoys their country retreat, complete with a large farm filled with horses, motorcycles, and surfboards.

Their rural setting is about 20 minutes away from the main suburban areas in Melbourne. Their nearest neighbor was several kilometers away. They surrounded themselves with natural beauty: “We lived amidst bushland and rainforest,” Chris explained. “And so we would explore nature together; they provided an escape for our days.”

In this new environment, their children can immerse themselves fully in outdoor adventures and even create imaginative scenarios within the vast expanse of nature. For instance, they might inhabit different characters during playtime under the canopy of ancient eucalyptus trees or amidst rolling hills.

This move has fundamentally transformed the family’s life, offering a sanctuary away from city pressures and paparazzi harassment, allowing them to cherish moments spent together as a happy, healthy family in their country paradise.
