A Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) team was ambushed in Bannu by militants during a routine operation, leading to an intense gun battle.
During the chaotic exchange of fire, a key militant commander identified as Usama alias Daniyal alias Baghi met his fate. Authorities confirmed that he was an active member and alleged mastermind of Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen Pakistan, a newly formed militant outfit.
Baghi’s death occurred when the investigative team, tasked with identifying the crime scene related to an attack on Assistant Commissioner Shah Wali Khan in North Waziristan, came under fire from militants.
In retaliation, another militant named Kamyab Khan alias Ikhlas Yar was killed by authorities in their own counter-attack. Security forces recovered a Kalashnikov rifle, two magazines, and two hand grenades from the deceased militant. The attackers fled with their wounded accomplices.
Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Zulfiqar Hameed commended the personnel for their swift response. “Terrorists do not serve anyone,” he said, adding that they even shoot their own associates for personal motives.
The Assistant Commissioner Shah Wali Khan’s attack, which triggered this operation, has been attributed to an unnamed militant group. Security forces are continuing their efforts to apprehend those responsible and dismantle the newly formed outfit in Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen Pakistan.
