American Diplomat Found Dead in Myanmar
An American diplomat was found dead at the Sakura Residence & Hotel in Yangon, Myanmar, according to the U.S. State Department. The agency confirmed the death of a U.S. government employee assigned to the embassy but provided no further details.
Diplomatic sources say the man’s body was discovered about two weeks ago and police are treating the case as a possible homicide. A Thai woman has been detained in connection with the investigation.
The Sakura Residence, popular among diplomats and international visitors, is located near the American Embassy. Authorities have given limited information to media outlets, and both the embassy station and hotel manager declined comment requests.
Myanmar’s ongoing conflict between its military-led government and various ethnic minority groups continues to complicate the situation.
