In Hattar, Deewan Cement’s management convened a critical emergency meeting to tackle severe environmental concerns affecting residents. Anis Ahmed, representing the head office from Deewan Cement, attended alongside a high-level delegation including the general manager and legal advisor.
Members from the Environmental Protection Forum highlighted alarming issues brought on by harmful dust emissions from the cement factory. They detailed how various serious diseases such as cancer, asthma, and skin ailments were spreading rapidly among local residents, with growing incidences raising significant health concerns.
Deewan Cement’s management assured that steps had already been taken to curtail coal usage and its detrimental effects. By Ramazan’s commencement, they pledged full control of the dust issue. A comprehensive strategy was being devised to reduce emissions further, aiming for resolution within six months.
In response, the director announced a planned visit to Bangkok to finalize a modern back-filter design that would establish an effective and sustainable dust control system. Until this proposal is fully implemented and the back-filter installed, operations will operate at partial capacity rather than full capacity to ensure resident health and environmental safety remain top priorities.
