Thousands of fans are mourning the loss of legendary West Coast house producer DJ Dan, who died at 57.

His death was confirmed by a representative to Billboard on March 29.

Initial reports following the announcement on March 28 did not specify the cause. Official statements from his representatives and booking agency expressed sorrow but provided no details.

Meanwhile, Dora King claimed on Facebook that DJ Dan died of a massive heart attack, though this has not been officially confirmed by all sources.

A spokesperson said, “It is with profound sorrow, deep admiration, and an enduring sense of gratitude and love that we announce the passing of Daniel Wherrett — known professionally as DJ Dan — one of the most beloved, genre-defying, and genuinely influential pioneers in American electronic music.”

“He leaves behind not just a discography but a culture — a way of feeling music that touched millions across four decades and five continents. He often said his purpose was ‘to heal through music.'”
