Former Local Representatives Launch Criticism at Peshawar Press Club

On Monday, former local government representatives from across Peshawar district gathered for a press conference held at the Peshawar Press Club. They strongly criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) provincial government, alleging it has been deliberately undermining the local bodies system following its candidates’ defeat in the 2019 local elections.

Amanullah Khan, President of the Association of Former Local Representatives and head of several councils, addressed the media along with other ex-nazims. He claimed that after the 2019 polls, the PTI-led provincial cabinet began making arbitrary changes to the local government framework through amendments which stripped elected representatives of their legitimate rights and powers.
