The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has officially launched a transformative project to install e-gates at three of the country’s busiest airports—Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi—marking a significant step toward modernization and enhanced passenger security.
A high-level delegation from M2P Consulting, including both local and international experts, visited the PAA headquarters to commence the project’s planning and design phase. The initiative aims to automate immigration and passenger processing through the installation of state-of-the-art e-gate systems that align with international aviation standards.
Prior to the agreement signing, senior officials from both sides held detailed technical discussions. The session was led by Deputy Director General Airports Sadiq ur Rehman and Deputy Director General Works and Development Sumair Saeed, who reviewed operational and technological considerations related to the new system.
The agreement was formally signed by Christophe Mostert, Managing Partner of M2P Consulting, and Kashif S. Jillani, Director Engineering Services at PAA. The project is slated for completion within 24 months, covering all phases from initial design and planning to full-scale implementation and installation.
The consultants will provide comprehensive oversight, ensuring that the new infrastructure meets both International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) protocols and local airport systems. Contractors will be brought on board through a competitive tendering process, with M2P supervising the work throughout.
Officials emphasized that the e-gate system will not only streamline passenger flow but also enhance security by reducing reliance on manual checks. The system is expected to improve operational efficiency and create a more seamless travel experience for passengers.
Surveys have already been completed at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport and Islamabad International Airport. A site survey at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport is scheduled to begin tomorrow, setting the groundwork for installation there as well.
The ceremony and project briefings were attended by senior PAA leadership, including Directors of Planning, Development, and Engineering Services, all of whom expressed confidence in the project’s potential to reshape airport infrastructure in Pakistan and bring it in line with international standards.
