In Islamabad, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has initiated a critical phase for preparing the ground for upcoming local body elections. In response to a directive from the Ministry of Interior, the ECP has formed a special committee to finalize matters related to town boundaries, union councils, and draft amendments under the ICT Local Government Ordinance 2026.
The committee, comprising key officials, will oversee crucial aspects of local government electoral procedures. Muhammad Ali Randhawa is appointed as the convener while Zafar Iqbal Hussain has been named a member. Additional appointees include Nadeem Qasim and Irfan Nawaz Memon.
Their primary task involves finalizing the notification for town corporation boundaries and deciding on the number of union councils within each town corporation. They are also responsible for ensuring authentic maps and accurate area names in line with approved delimitations.
Moreover, the committee will draft amendments to the ICT Local Government Conduct of Elections Rules 2015 under the ICT Local Government Amendment Ordinance 2026. These expected amendments are anticipated to be completed swiftly. Regular meetings will keep the process on track for a smooth and effective outcome.
The formation of this committee underscores the ECP’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accuracy in Islamabad’s local body elections, which are now set to proceed with these finalized details.
