Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared that the upcoming local elections scheduled for March 31 will mark his final participation in electoral processes, according to state-run Anadolu news agency.

Erdogan, widely regarded as one of modern Turkey’s most successful politicians, has been at the helm of the country for over two decades. Having won more than a dozen elections since 2002, Erdogan secured re-election for a five-year term following fiercely contested elections in May 2023.

This is a final for me, under the mandate given by the law this is my last election,” Erdogan stated. “The result that will come out will be the transferring of a legacy to my siblings who will come after me,” he added, as reported by Anadolu.
