An early morning explosion near the perimeter of the United States embassy in Oslo, Norway, left a distinct echo across the district. Local authorities reported that while no casualties were confirmed, minor damage was caused by an attack believed to be targeted.
At approximately 1 AM local time, police identified the incident occurring at the entrance to the consular section. While exact cause remains unknown, investigative efforts are underway using resources including dogs, drones, and helicopters, according to a state broadcaster statement. Oslo Police Chief Michael Dellemyr shared his perspective in interviews with local media.
In response to the event, Norway’s Justice and Public Security Minister Astri-Hansen labeled it as “unacceptable,” emphasizing that extensive police resources are dedicated to uncovering further details about the incident. She noted there was no immediate indication of a threat to public safety but encouraged continued vigilance by residents in the surrounding area.
The United States embassy is situated on Morgedalsvegan, approximately 7 kilometers (4 miles) from Oslo city center. In line with embassy guidelines, inquiries concerning this matter have been directed to the Department’s Office of Press Operations, which has yet to respond publicly to date.
