Shehbaz Sharif mourns deaths of two Pakistani nationals in Dubai

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow on Sunday through his social media post, noting two Pakistani nationals had died in Dubai due to debris from recent joint US-Israeli strikes against Iran. In response, our diplomatic missions are closely coordinating with authorities in the UAE for immediate assistance and ensuring a swift repatriation process.

Our hearts ache for those affected by this tragedy, especially the bereaved family. The prime minister affirmed, “Our diplomatic missions will work closely with Dubai authorities to provide necessary support and facilitate all processes.”

This marks the second instance of a Pakistani national losing their life in an attack within the UAE during ongoing hostilities between Iran and its adversaries, including Israel. On February 28, an Iranian missile strike on Abu Dhabi led to the death of a resident from Bannu district who had been working there for nearly eight years.

This time, debris from an aerial interception caused by a projectile targeting sites in Abu Dhabi fell onto a vehicle in Dubai’s Al Barsha area at night. While authorities confirmed one Pakistani driver’s death due to such debris, they did not specify the particular missile intercepted or its origin.

The UAE conveyed sincere condolences and extended its full solidarity with the family of Mureed Zaman, who had lived in Bannu district, earning his livelihood through labor work and driving for nearly eight years. The foreign ministry statement declared, “We strongly condemn any targeting of civilians and civilian objects under international law and humanitarian principles.”

As tensions escalate across the region, Iran continues to retaliate against US assets and bases, while Israel has carried out strikes in Lebanon.
