A devastating accident in Washuk, Balochistan, claimed the lives of 28 individuals, including women and children, as a passenger coach traveling from Turbat to Quetta overturned on Wednesday morning.
Reports indicate that 22 passengers sustained injuries in the tragic incident, attributed to a tire burst and excessive speeding. The driver lost control of the bus, causing it to veer off the road and plunge into a ravine near Basima area.
Rescue teams promptly responded, transferring the deceased and injured to a local hospital for medical attention. Basima Assistant Commissioner Ismail Mengal confirmed that the accident was triggered by a tire burst, leading to the vehicle’s overturning and subsequent fall into the ravine.
With six passengers reported to be in serious condition, efforts are underway to transport the injured to Quetta after administering initial aid. Authorities have requested the provincial government for helicopter assistance in this regard, while the deceased are kept at Civil Hospital for identification.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Acting President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani extended condolences to the grieving families, expressing solidarity and prayers for the departed souls. They pledged support to the affected families during this challenging period and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
