A government committee tasked with streamlining administrative operations has recommended a 30% reduction in the workforce of four ministries. These include science and technology, commerce, housing and works, and national food security and research, along with their associated departments.
During a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the committee also suggested closing certain departments entirely and merging others to optimize resources.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, “The implementation of these recommendations is expected to save the national exchequer approximately Rs42.1 billion.”
The prime minister directed officials to thoroughly review the proposed changes and present a follow-up report in the next cabinet meeting.
In addition, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi provided an update on relief efforts in Parachinar. He stated that operations were ongoing, with close coordination between the federal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments to address the situation effectively.
