Ferrari Launches Luce: First-Ever Fully Electric Car
Ferrari has officially launched its first-ever fully electric car, Luce, entering the EV market dominated by Tesla and Chinese BYD. Priced at $649,000, this significant departure from traditional supercar design features four doors and five seats.
Designed in collaboration with Sir Jony Ive’s Apple design chief agency, LoveFrom, the car boasts a “spaceship” silhouette, 23-24 inch wheels, rear-hinged door, and aerodynamic body. The flexible, five-seater hatchback design allows for improved torsional rigidity.
Interiorly, Luce is crafted with CNC-machined aluminum, tactile quality, and advanced glass technology console. It features physical switchgear for manual control and an accelerometer to capture dynamic vibrations from rotating components, creating real electric sound. Torque Shift Engagement simulates engine braking, while a chassis control system manages the vehicle across various angles.
Internet users quickly expressed divided opinions on Luce’s release. Some praised Ferrari’s innovation, while others criticized its design as backward and lacking market research. Ferrari’s chief design officer, Flavio Manzoni, acknowledged these polarizing reactions as part of the innovation process.
