Soccer fans in the US, Canada, and Mexico are set to miss out on the distinctive sound of vuvuzelas at upcoming World Cup matches.
The plastic horns, which have become synonymous with soccer since their popularity during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, will be banned from all 16 venues due to FIFA’s new stadium code of conduct.
Alongside vuvuzelas, whistles, air horns, and other excessively loud noise-making devices are also prohibited. The list extends to prohibit laser beams or similar emissions, body paint, tattoos, and the act of streaking for safety reasons.
Spectators will be barred from bringing reusable water bottles into venues as well. Violation of these rules could result in being refused entry or removal from the stadium.
