A fire broke out in bushes near the University of Karachi (UoK) on Monday, prompting immediate action from rescue services. According to police sources, the blaze occurred around 4 PM local time. The Rescue 1122 Spokesperson Hassaanul Haseeb Khan confirmed that two initial fire tenders were dispatched due to information received about a potential emergency.
However, as the wind picked up and fueled the flames, the situation rapidly escalated. Four additional fire vehicles were called in to combat the blaze, which had now engulfed an adjacent plant nursery near the university campus. Despite this substantial response, there was no loss of life reported by the authorities; however, conditions at the scene remained precarious due to proximity.
Speaking about the firefighting efforts, Haseeb Khan highlighted that this incident came close to a similar event from just over three months ago, where a local resident lost his life in a makeshift hut near the UoK. The rescue spokesperson suggested using one of the recently refurbished fire tenders at the university for future emergencies.
This recent incident underscores the potential severity of bush fires and the importance of having adequately equipped emergency response teams available to handle such incidents promptly.
