UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announces a summit with France aimed at safeguarding shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The meeting, which includes over 40 nations, is set to discuss ways to protect shipping once hostilities cease.
French President Emmanuel Macron also emphasized that any multinational mission would be separate from warring parties and intended strictly for defensive purposes.
US-Israeli strikes on Iran last month triggered a region-wide conflict, causing significant disruption in global oil and gas shipments. The US has since ordered its navy to enforce a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, but Starmer confirmed Britain’s decision not to participate.
