A high-level delegation from Google met with Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, on Friday to discuss the effective use of technology in education, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the digital economy.
The Google delegation included Andrew Ure, Head of Trade and Economic Affairs, Asia-Pacific; Kyle Gardener, Government Affairs and Public Policy Lead, South Asia; and Farhan Qureshi, Google’s Country Head for Pakistan. They briefed the Minister on Google’s literacy programs.
Shaza Fatima commended Google for Education’s initiative to create a local assembly of Chromebooks in Pakistan, stating that providing digital tools to teachers and students will help bridge the education divide. She emphasized the importance of equipping the youth with digital skills, noting that training in digital tools can lead to better employment opportunities.
The Minister highlighted the significance of smart schools for remote learning and assured that the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication will fully support Google’s initiatives.
Additional Secretary Aisha Humera Moriani, Member IT Syed Junaid Imam, and Member Telecom Muhammad Jahanzeb Rahim also attended the meeting.
