Government to Provide 40,000 Subsidied E-Bikes

Government Launches Initiative to Promote Clean Transportation

The federal government has unveiled a plan to distribute 40,000 electric bikes (e-bikes) to the public at subsidized prices, aiming to reduce pollution and cut down on the country’s oil import bill. The announcement was made by Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, during a news conference in Islamabad.

To promote the electric vehicle (EV) sector, the government has allocated a Rs 4 billion subsidy for two- and three-wheelers. Hussain emphasized that this transition would not only benefit the environment but also ease the financial burden caused by fuel imports.

The initiative includes soft loans from banks to help the public adopt EVs more easily. At the same time, the government is offering extensive incentives to foreign investors to establish electric vehicle plants within Pakistan.

As part of this program, the government will also reward academic excellence. “Under the subsidy plan, 120 electric motorcycles will be distributed free of charge to the country’s top-performing students,” Hussain announced, highlighting the administration’s focus on fostering education alongside technological advancement.
