Guardian Questions Timing of Modi’s Foreign Honours

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded several foreign honors, sparking political debate. According to The Guardian, some awards were created just days before his visits. For instance, Seychelles introduced the “Guardian of the Blue Horizon” award three days before Modi’s visit.

The newspaper also alleged that an initial version of the award certificate contained spelling errors in the words “Republic” and “Seychelles,” suggesting it may have been generated using artificial intelligence (AI). However, Seychelles’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected these allegations, stating the incorrect certificate was merely a working draft and insisting the award is genuine.

The Guardian further claimed that Israel’s “Medal of the Knesset” was created days before Modi’s visit, making him its sole recipient. The newspaper highlighted other top civilian honors from countries like Ethiopia and Trinidad and Tobago, where Modi was either the first foreign recipient or the only one.

India’s opposition Congress party mocked these honours, alleging that the Modi government uses them for domestic political promotion and image-building. However, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) maintains that these honors reflect international recognition of Modi’s global leadership, diplomatic achievements, and environmental contributions.
