Gul Plaza’s Complex Faces Scrutiny Over Construction Irregularities

The construction and planning details of Gul Plaza, a building originally constructed in the 1980s, have come under the spotlight. Records show that an additional floor was added to the building in 1998. Modifications also included the conversion of rooftop areas into parking spaces and the establishment of shops in previously designated parking zones. In 2003, the newly added floor was formally regularized with completion certification obtained by the building’s owner on April 14, 2003.

Official maps indicate that Gul Plaza was originally approved for three floors including a basement and 1,021 shops. However, investigations reveal that the building now houses 1,200 shops, exceeding the approved number by 179 units. Furthermore, shops have been constructed in corridors and emergency exit areas, raising concerns about safety and compliance with urban building regulations.

The discrepancies between the approved plans and the current layout have sparked renewed discussions on construction oversight and regulatory enforcement in urban centers.
