Judicial Commission’s Gul Plaza Fire Investigation Report Revealed
A recent judicial commission investigation into the tragic fire at Gul Plaza in Karachi has shed light on several critical issues. The report stated that the devastating blaze occurred on January 17, 2026.
The findings revealed a lack of firefighting and alarm systems within the building. Additionally, inadequate arrangements for safe evacuation were noted, compounded by congestion and construction work outside the premises which hindered rescue efforts.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah appreciated the commission’s thorough investigation and pledged to introduce comprehensive reforms in building safety. This includes making fire safety audits mandatory for all buildings.
In response, a committee comprising three ministers – Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Ziaul Hasan Lanjar, and Jam Ikramullah Dharejo – was formed to review the report promptly and present its recommendations to the Chief Minister. The meeting saw attendance from provincial ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon, Nasir Hussain Shah, and Ziaul Hasan Lanjar, along with Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab and other relevant officials.
