In a tragic incident near the Afghan Refugees Camp in Domel tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district, peace committee member Khwajatullah was shot dead, and his cousin Naseemullah sustained serious injuries. The police confirmed this information.
“The attack occurred when Khwajatullah and Naseemullah were at a shop in Tehsil Colony to purchase groceries,” the police stated. “Two unidentified armed men suddenly arrived and opened fire indiscriminately. As a result, Khwajatullah was fatally wounded on the spot while Naseemullah was injured. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.”
In his statement to the Domel Police, Naseemullah explained that the attack was sudden and they had no personal enmity or dispute with anyone.
District Police Officer Yasir Afridi commented: “Investigations are underway, and all possible angles are being examined to identify the motives behind this incident.”
Additionally, unknown terrorists planted a dangerous explosive device on Eidgah Road in Domel. The police official reported that the neutralized explosive weighed between three to four kilograms and had a remote-control mechanism.
“Thanks to the expertise of the Bomb Disposal Squad and their prompt response, the area was saved from potential disaster,” he said.
Bannu district has been experiencing repeated security incidents recently, including attacks on both civilians and local security actors amid an escalation in militant violence. On January 13, four members of a peace committee were killed by armed assailants, according to police confirmation. In response, targeted operations by the police and security forces have disrupted militant networks in various areas of Bannu district.
