Erling Haaland scored two late goals, helping Norway defeat Brazil 2-1 in the World Cup’s last 16 on Sunday. This victory sent Norway into the quarter-finals for the first time ever. Neymar missed a penalty in stoppage time, which was no consolation as this was Brazil’s first loss to reach the quarter-finals since 1990.

The match saw intense heat and a significant fan presence for Brazil, with yellow jerseys dominating the stands. Despite an early penalty conceded by Brazil, Haaland capitalized on opportunities, scoring from distance and using his height advantage. Coach Stale Solbakken made strategic substitutions that allowed Haaland to shine.

Brazil’s initial momentum faltered when Bruno Guimaraes missed a crucial penalty kick saved by Orjan Nyland. The second half saw Norway’s Andreas Schjelderup provide the perfect assist for Haaland, who scored his seventh goal of the tournament, tying Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi for the Golden Boot lead.

Neymar’s late penalty attempt in extra time was unsuccessful, leaving Brazil crestfallen as they faced their longest World Cup drought since 2002. The Norwegian victory will see them face either Mexico or England in the quarter-finals.
