Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman Criticizes Government Over Petrol Price Hike

Addressing a JI membership ceremony in Rawalpindi on Saturday, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman demanded immediate termination of contracts with Independent Power Producers (IPPs). He criticized the government for collecting Rs153 in taxes per litre of petrol and emptying the treasury through capacity payments.

JI Chief Calls for Abolishment of Petrol Subsidy

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman emphasized that he was not advocating for a reduction in subsidies but for their abolition, stating “We do not want to beg for subsidies.” He also highlighted the potential for reducing petrol and electricity prices.

JI Seeks System Change, Rejects Solar Policy

The JI chief called for a change in the system and negotiations with traders on market schedules. He criticized the government’s burden on people through taxes worth Rs400 on diesel and petrol. Hafiz Naeemur Rehman rejected the illegal policy of solar energy and promised to announce an action plan after Eid, vowing to campaign against IPPs and the wheat mafia across the country.
