Health Department Scrutinizes Poor Dengue Campaign Performance

The Rawalpindi Health Department has issued show-cause notices to 120 Dengue Sanitary Patrol workers in Potohar Town for substandard performance in the anti-dengue campaign. The department’s concerns are primarily directed at Lady Health Workers and Lady Sanitary Patrol Workers, along with 15 male workers who were also found wanting in their duties.

The notices state that these personnel have failed to adequately conduct dengue larva surveillance and submit necessary reports to higher command structures. Those named must provide immediate replies; otherwise, disciplinary actions, including dismissal, could be initiated.

In response to the show-cause notices, Lady Health Workers and Sanitary Patrol Workers took a stand against what they perceived as unjust treatment. They argued that upon announcement of promised mobile phones, government SIM cards, and free internet facilities for 1,400 male and female dengue workers two years ago, funds had been allocated to Rawalpindi.

However, the protesters claimed that despite the time elapsed, these benefits have not materialized. The workers alleged that they have been expected to bear costs associated with mobile devices, SIM cards, and internet packages from their personal pockets, which they found unreasonable given their low salaries.

They insisted that if provided with official mobile phones, SIMs, and free internet in line with allocated funds, they would promptly report their field operations using these resources. They pointed out that even those who possess personal mobile devices are unable to afford regular internet packages. The workers assert that the provision of official communication facilities is crucial for enhancing overall performance.

The protest indicates a growing discontent over perceived delays and unfair expectations from low-paid staff members involved in the anti-dengue campaign.
