Punjab PDMA Issues Heatwave Warning

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority Punjab has issued a severe heatwave warning for the province from May 7 to 11.

In upper Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Sargodha, temperatures are expected to range between 39°C and 43°C. In southern Punjab, areas like Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan may see temperatures climb up to 47°C.

Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed has urged all authorities to remain vigilant, with nighttime temperatures also expected to be above normal. Intense heat could lead to dust storms, prompting citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and stay hydrated.

Farmers have been advised to protect crops and livestock in advance. Rescue 1122 has been directed to remain on high alert for heatstroke and dehydration victims, ensuring relief camps, clean drinking water, ORS and first aid facilities are available in urban areas. Mobile health teams will also be active to handle heat-related cases as temperatures rise.
