NEW DELHI (Dunya News) – Following military tensions between India and Pakistan in May 2025, Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced an increase of 15 percent in the defense budget for the fiscal year 2026-27. The Ministry presented a total allocation of $85.4 billion.

The budget includes investments aimed at acquiring advanced technology and military equipment, alongside improvements to existing defence systems. Additionally, it aims to streamline procurement procedures and ensure more efficient use of resources.

India’s defense spending highlights its commitment to modernizing its armed forces in the face of ongoing geopolitical challenges, particularly with Pakistan. The government also signaled a focus on infrastructure spending while maintaining fiscal discipline.
