India Seek Special Performance vs Street-Smart England in T20 Semi-final

India Must “Put Their Hand Up” as They Face A “Street-Smart” England in T20 World Cup Semi-Final

In what promises to be a thrilling contest, India will require a standout performance against a “street-smart” England side in their T20 World Cup semi-final at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium. This encounter comes on the heels of Sanju Samson’s match-winning 97 not out for India as they attempted to chase down 196 against the West Indies.

Bolstering this warning, bowling coach Morne Morkel emphasized that Indian cricket needs someone who can put their hand up in Thursday’s big clash. “We haven’t really spoken about the perfect game,” Morkel told reporters at Wankhede after India’s final training session. “It’s not about how you get to the semi-finals; it’s about the next two games, how we’re going to play there.”

Morkel acknowledged that India had yet to put together a flawless display in the tournament but remained optimistic. The coach emphasized that quality of this team has been demonstrated time and again when someone steps up.

“Then hopefully, especially tomorrow night, we can put that special performance in,” Morkel said.

This will mark the third consecutive T20 World Cup where India faces England in a semi-final. In previous encounters, both times they won, going on to lift the trophy.

The match features an enthusiastic home crowd of 35,000 fans, adding another layer of importance and excitement to the game.

Morkel echoed these sentiments as he spoke about training sessions. “Training on Tuesday night was delayed by an hour so it did not coincide with a lunar eclipse,” he admitted. The delay seemed less significant than the message behind it: focusing on delivering quality at practice, which Morkel noted had been impressive to see.

India’s preparation appears to be meticulous and thoughtful; avoiding potential bad luck like the lunar eclipse while ensuring their players are sharp for this crucial match. India hosted the T20 World Cup in 2016, where they lost in a Mumbai semi-final against eventual champions the West Indies. This time around, they face England who have shown resilience through wins over Sri Lanka, Pakistan and New Zealand in previous stages.

England’s batting depth combined with their attacking options could be both an opportunity and challenge for India, according to Morkel. He emphasized that England approaches T20 cricket fearlessly, always trying to take the game on, which can create opportunities but also demands a strong response from India’s team as well.

South Africa will face New Zealand in another semi-final later Wednesday evening.

India faces a tough test against England but with proper focus and preparation, Morkel sees opportunity for victory. The stage is set for an intriguing battle where history could be made at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium on Thursday night.
