Iran Restricts Airspace for ‘Military Drills’

As tensions escalate with Israel, Iran has restricted its airspace for military activities, as reported by Egyptian media. The restriction includes a ban on civilian air travel due to planned military exercises.

This move comes in response to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, an act Iran attributes to Israel and for which it has pledged retaliation. Both the United States and Israel anticipate that an attack may be imminent and are preparing defensive measures.

According to Al Qahera News TV, an Egyptian official has stated that Iran has advised international airlines to avoid its airspace. Earlier this week, Iran had already imposed a ban on civilian air traffic in central, western, and northwestern regions of the country, advising aircraft to alter their routes accordingly.

In light of the situation, Egypt has also issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) directing its airlines to avoid Iranian airspace during a specified three-hour period from 1-4 am on August 8.
