Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that communication and exchanges of messages with the United States are ongoing, but it would be premature to suggest a final outcome. He emphasized that reports circulating are largely speculative in nature.
Araghchi also clarified that direct messages he receives from Steve Witkoff do not indicate formal negotiations between Iran and the US. Claims of direct talks within Iran have been dismissed as unfounded by Araghchi, who noted all communications pass through the Foreign Ministry.
Recalling past negotiations with the US which ended without agreement, Araghchi stressed the importance of tangible results in any future engagement. He reiterated that while communication channels remain open, conclusions at this stage would be premature.
Earlier, Iran’s parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Tehran will not accept an agreement with the US unless it produces clear and measurable outcomes, according to state media reports cited by Al Jazeera. Speaking during a virtual session of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Ghalibaf stressed that any potential deal would only be considered if there is firm assurance that the rights of the Iranian people are fully protected. He added that there is “no trust in the enemy’s words and promises,” emphasizing Iran’s focus on securing tangible results before making commitments.
