Islamabad police have extended the capital’s red zone to include Faisal Avenue, in a bid to enforce Section 144 and preempt potential violations.
The red zone expansion, spanning from Ataturk Avenue to Faisal Avenue, follows a request by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad to the local administration.
This move is perceived as a proactive measure against anticipated protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Previously, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration denied a protest request from PTI, citing the enforcement of Section 144 in the city.
The administration clarified that under Section 144, protests of any kind would not be permitted within the city limits.
Section 144 grants the district administration the authority to prohibit protests for specific periods.
