Israel is engaged in negotiations with the United States regarding its troop deployment in southern Lebanon, according to Israeli officials speaking anonymously. The talks come after the US and Iran signed an interim pact on March 2nd, which calls for parties to uphold Lebanon’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The senior official stated that Israel is “conducting stubborn negotiations” with Washington over continuing its presence in the region south of the Litani River. Another Israeli official indicated that the outcome hinges on whether US President Donald Trump threatens repercussions if Israel fails to comply with the interim Iran pact’s terms.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has previously described the seized territories as buffer zones, rejecting calls for a withdrawal from Lebanon, Gaza, and Syria.
