Supreme Court Approves Utility Allowance Increase for Staff
The Supreme Court of Pakistan has approved a 100% increase in utility allowances for its staff and officers, according to sources on Thursday. Chief Justice Yahya Afridi gave his approval.
The revised allowances will take effect from July 1, 2026, as per an official notification. The budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 will finance these increased costs.
Utility allowance covers gas and electricity expenses. Employees in Grade 1 to 6 will see their allowance doubled from Rs6,000 to Rs12,000. For those in Grade 7 to 10, the increase is from Rs8,000 to Rs16,000. Grade 11 to 15 employees’ allowances are now Rs20,000 instead of Rs10,000.
Officers’ allowances have also increased: Grade 16 from Rs12,000 to Rs24,000; Grade 17 from Rs15,000 to Rs30,000; Grade 18 from Rs18,000 to Rs36,000; and Grade 19 from Rs21,000 to Rs42,000. Senior officers in Grade 21 and above have their allowances doubled from Rs30,000 to Rs60,000.
Any additional costs due to the increase will be covered by the approved budget for the fiscal year 2026-27.
