Jamaat Islami has announced a protest sit-in in Islamabad on July 12 to oppose over-billing and persistent power load shedding.

Ameer Jamaat Islami Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman claimed that 1,000 people have died during the ongoing heatwave, but K-Electric has not reduced power outages in Karachi.

Electricity Shortfall Reaches 6,070 MW, Leading to Prolonged Power Outages

“It has been 19 years since the privatization of the power utility, yet its line losses remain high, and it supplies the most expensive electricity in the country,” Hafiz Naeem said.

He criticized the government and the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), stating, “The government and NEPRA have devastated the people.”

Announcing the sit-in, Hafiz Naeem declared, “We will now settle every issue with the sit-in.”

He vowed, “We will force the government to withdraw its increase in power tariff and taxes.”
