Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani has accused K-Electric of implementing a system of collective punishment in Karachi.

Speaking in the Sindh Assembly on Tuesday during a session on a resolution against HESCO, SEPCO, and K-Electric presented by PPP member Heer Ismail Soho, Ghani criticized the power utility for subjecting entire neighborhoods to power cuts due to the actions of a few electricity thieves.

FIRs should be registered against KE on fatalities during loadshedding in heatwave

Ghani highlighted that prolonged and unscheduled load shedding, sometimes lasting up to 12 hours, is severely affecting residents, including students taking exams. “When a few individuals steal electricity, the whole area suffers. This isn’t how a civilized society operates,” he said. He emphasized that load shedding exacerbates the water crisis, making daily life even more difficult.

Minister Ghani also expressed concern over the health impacts of the power outages, suggesting that fatalities due to heat should result in FIRs against K-Electric. He condemned the company for its harsh load-shedding policies and called for a more humane approach, pointing out that even bill-paying customers are not spared.

Ghani urged the Sindh government and federal authorities to take decisive action against K-Electric’s practices, asserting that the situation demands immediate intervention to alleviate the suffering of Karachi residents.
