The Meteorological Department has released rainfall figures for Karachi, where incessant downpours have transformed streets into waterlogged scenes. The city of lights is experiencing a deluge, with February showers shattering numerous previous records.
According to meteorological reports, the rainfall in Karachi during February is exceptionally high. The previous record for January was set in 1995 with 89.3 millimeters of rainfall, while February 1979 saw a record-breaking 96 millimeters of rainfall.
As per the latest data, the current rainfall in February has surpassed all previous records, reaching a staggering 60 millimeters.
Yesterday, rainfall records were set in various areas of Karachi, with 75 millimeters recorded in Shahrah-e-Faisal, 64 millimeters in Malir Halt, 63.8 millimeters in Surjani Town, and 55 millimeters in Kemari.
Furthermore, rainfall records were also established in other areas, with 50 millimeters in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, 52 millimeters in Saadi Town, 51 millimeters at Airport Old Area, 47.2 millimeters in PAF Masroor Base, and 42 millimeters at Jinnah Terminal.

Due to the heavy rainfall, many of Karachi’s roads have been submerged. Court Road, Sindh Assembly, Akbar Road, and adjacent roads are underwater, presenting a surreal sight. In North Karachi, a section of Shahrah-e-Usman Road got blocked due to flooding, trapping a car. Civilians promptly rescued the occupants from the vehicle.
With the onset of rain, power outages have become prevalent in most areas of Karachi, adding to the woes of residents.
