The Karachi Police Chief disclosed that a staggering 31 individuals have lost their lives, while over 80 others sustained injuries, in the initial two months of the year due to a surge in street crimes. This disturbing trend has been punctuated by tragic events, notably a robbery at a vegetable market near Malir Halt, targeting three traders.
The traders, who had set out to the market during the early hours, fell prey to robbers who, in a brazen act, opened fire, resulting in injuries and loss of possessions. Shockingly, the injured traders informed the police that this wasn’t the first time such an incident occurred at the same location, emphasizing the audacity of the criminals.
Eyewitnesses vividly described scenes of chaos as the injured sought refuge at a nearby petrol station, desperately seeking safety from the gunfire. The resurgence of street crimes and robberies has instilled fear in the community, with numerous individuals becoming victims of such incidents, leading to significant losses of valuables.
In response to these distressing developments, residents of Karachi are calling on authorities to launch a comprehensive operation against street criminals and to crackdown on the proliferation of illegal weapons. Their aim is to restore safety and security to their neighborhoods in the face of this escalating threat.
