The Karachi police registered a new case on Saturday against Natasha Danish, the suspect in the Karsaz accident, after her medical reports confirmed she was under the influence of methamphetamine, commonly known as crystal meth.

Natasha was initially charged with the deaths of Imran Arif, 60, and his daughter Amna Arif in an accident near the Karsaz area on August 19. Following the positive drug test, a new FIR was lodged, as confirmed by the police, who have now submitted the updated case to the court.

Currently in judicial custody by order of a Karachi East court, Natasha was earlier found to have methamphetamine in her system according to an August 28 medical report. Although the police have kept the details confidential, they will present the report as part of the investigation in court.

Additionally, a special investigation team has been formed to probe the incident. Investigators are analyzing CCTV footage and have noted inconsistencies in Natasha’s statements.

The suspect was traveling from her home in DHA Scheme-I to her in-laws’ residence, a journey of about 3-4 kilometers, when the accident occurred. Her vehicle was registered under a private company’s name, according to the investigation.

New charges have been added to the case, including Section 322 Qatal-bis-Sabab (murder without intention), which could result in a prison sentence of 10 to 18 years. The victim’s family also has the option of pursuing a settlement through diyat (blood money), amounting to approximately Rs 6.8 million. If the family accepts, the case could be closed.
