The Karachi police have established a special investigation team to thoroughly examine the Karsaz accident case, in which a woman is accused of causing the deaths of 60-year-old Imran Arif and his daughter Amna Arif on August 19.
According to the police, investigators have gathered and are currently reviewing all CCTV footage related to the incident. The blood test report of the female driver, which is expected within the next 24 hours, could lead to additional charges being added to the case.
Police sources revealed that the woman has been inconsistent in her statements. The investigation uncovered that she was driving from her home in DHA Scheme-I to her in-laws’ residence, a short distance of approximately 3-4 kilometers, when the fatal accident occurred. The vehicle involved was registered under the name of a private company.
The case has seen the inclusion of Section 322 Qatal-bis-Sabab (murder without intention), which could result in a prison sentence ranging from 10 to 18 years. This section also involves the possibility of a diyat (blood money) settlement, where the suspect may be required to pay compensation amounting to the equivalent of 30,360 grams of silver, estimated at about Rs 6.8 million. If the victim’s family agrees to this settlement, the case could be closed.
Meanwhile, the police are actively seeking additional CCTV footage to support their investigation. On Friday, DIG East urged other victims of the accident, including those who suffered injuries or property damage, to come forward and provide their statements to the police.
During a visit to the victims’ residence in Gulzar-i-Hijri, Scheme-33, DIG Mahesar offered condolences to the grieving family and assured them of full legal support. He emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and pledged that justice will be served for the deceased father and daughter, promising fairness at every stage of the process.
